Inept Instructions

People who can’t follow instructions drive me to the brink of insanity, but people who can’t write sensible instructions mostly amuse me.

Todd and I spent the afternoon on Monday in Starbucks, and Todd gets credit for discovering the gem I’m about to describe. (I like that he and I often find the same ridiculous things amusing.) In the restrooms, Starbucks had those awesome hand dryers that force the air out at such high velocity that for just a moment you get to see your hands all wrinkled up like they will be in old age. And, of course, since Starbucks has installed hand dryers that (gasp!) actually dry hands, they don’t put paper towels in the bathroom. However, Todd pointed out that stickers¬†with a six step illustrated tutorial of how to appropriately wash your hands adorn the hand dryers . Step five instructs people to get a towel to dry their hands. Step six is even better — use the towel to turn off the faucet.

Starbucks isn’t alone though. Today, when I was in Giant, I noticed that their hand dryers also had stickers telling people to use towels. At least they left out the step about using the towel to turn off the faucet.
